India is proudly celebrating its 62nd year of being a Republic today, 26th January 2011, Wednesday. This event is one of the most important national events for our country where we can showcase our achievements and the strength of our defense forces and other security forces to the citizens of the country and the whole world. The Republic Day Parade takes place every year in the capital, New Delhi beginning from Raj Path and going upto the Vijay Chowk. This Parade is telecast live on Doordarshan from 8:00 Am onwards and also will be broadcast live online so that those who cannot watch it on TV can watch it on the Internet. The Republic Day celebration was started on 26th January 1950 that the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India.
The highlight of this year's parade will be the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, participating in the Republic Day Parade on the Rajpath for the first time. The twin seater Trainer Version of the Tejas is being displayed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The DRDO equipment columns include an array of Naval Underwater Weapons such as torpedoes, Life Support Systems such as Submarine Escape Suit and the Long Range Solid State Active Phased Array Radar. The Indian Army will display its most advanced T-90 tank, Brahmos Launcher System, Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher, Reporter Tactical Control Radar, NBC Recce Vehicle, Indigenous Pontoons Movable Section Brigade, Integrated Network Platform, Prahar-510 Armoured Troop Carrier and a flypast by the Army Aviation Corps' Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv. While the Indian Navy will display scaled down models of the aircraft carrier INS Viraat, Talwar kilo class submarine and the Mig-29K, the 4th Generation fighter jet inducted last year, the Indian Air Force tableau will focus on Network Centric Operations based on the AFNET, the state-of-the-art gigabyte digital information grid, also dedicated to the nation last year. Well, today most of the citizens also celebrated this day proudly in their own societies, buildings, offices, private get together, schools and colleges etc by unfurling the national flag and singing the national anthem. Our society too celebrated this function early morning and most of the residents were present to take part in the programme that was presented by the local committee members.
The security personnel were all present to salute the flag and sing the national anthem proudly. There was a solo song presented by one of the children followed by the speech from the chief guests who had been felicitated for this occasion. In another society within the same complex of Raheja Gardens a prize distribution ceremony was also held for all those children who had taken part in the various sports activities that were held through the year, which included games like cricket, football, table tennis etc..
The photos above are from the flag hoisting ceremony that took place today morning in Raheja Gardens complex, where I reside. The event was followed by tea and snacks for everyone.
